Jack Thompson’s Record-Breaking FKT on the Munda Biddi Trail
In November 2023, we were incredibly proud to sponsor ultra-cyclist and Steadyrack Brand Ambassador, Jack Thompson, in his attempt to tackle the Munda Biddi Trail in the Fastest Known Time (FKT). The world’s longest continuous bike trail in Australia’s Southwest is not for the faint hearted – 1067km stretching from Mundaring down to Albany – and under the challenging conditions of a heatwave in Western Australia, Jack successfully set an impressive new record of 2 days, 12 hours & 15 minutes.
Facing a 14,000km ascent, the climatic conditions were extremely demanding. In the midst of the highest recorded November temperatures, Jack embarked on his journey in 40°C heat, wrestling with the harsh weather for a gruelling 60 hours. Despite the danger of snakes, kangaroos, wild dogs, spiders, bushfires, and intense 80km/hr head winds, Jack pressed on with just 17 minutes of sleep and broke the existing record by an astonishing 5 hours, to be crowned the new world record holder for the Fastest Known Time (FKT) to complete the Munda Biddi Trail.

Following the event, Jack visited roughly 5,000 children at schools in the remote Southwest of Australia to share his story and talk about the importance of exercise and the power of dreaming, particularly cycling, on their mental health. Jack has been an advocate for mental health, using his platform and personal experiences to help raise awareness surrounding mental illness and how the community can make a difference.
